History, Knowledge, and the Politics of Unmasking

Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele is pleased to announce the 2026 edition of the Rotelli Lectures, the annual lecture series dedicated to leading voices in contemporary philosophy.

This year’s guest is Amia Srinivasan, Chichele Professor of Social and Political Theory at All Souls College at the University of Oxford,  whose research spans political philosophy, epistemology, feminist theory, and metaphilosophy.

 

Over the course of five public lectures, Professor Srinivasan will explore the theme of Critical Genealogy, examining how genealogical inquiry shapes our understanding of knowledge, politics, ethics, and social transformation.

An overview

What does it mean to uncover the origins of the ideas, values, and institutions that shape our world? And what happens when those origins challenge what we take to be true?

Through the lens of critical genealogy, this lecture series explores how investigating the history of contemporary beliefs and practices can transform the way we understand knowledge, politics, and ethics. Drawing on philosophy, history, and social theory, Professor Srinivasan will examine critical genealogy as a powerful tool for questioning established assumptions, revealing hidden structures of power, and reflecting on the ethical implications of "unmasking" ourselves and others.

The lectures will take place from 3 to 5 November 2026 in Room DO106, UniSR Campus MI2, and are open to students, scholars, and the general public.

In preparation for the ninth edition of the Rotelli Lectures, UniSR is hosting a series of introductory seminars aimed at presenting the work and intellectual contributions of Vittorio Hösle.

l seminario introduce l'opera di Vittorio Hösle in vista della nona edizione ​della Cattedra Rotelli intitolata ​The Crisis of Liberalism.​

Studioso di Platone, di Vico e di Hegel, Hösle ​si distingue anche per l’attenzione ​alle questioni ecologiche, alla crisi della modernità, a tematiche estetiche ​e alla politica contemporanea.​ Attualmente docente presso la Notre Dame University, in Indiana (USA), il 6 agosto 2013 ​è stato insignito da Papa Francesco del titolo di Accademico ordinario della Pontificia Accademia delle Scienze Sociali.​
